The house in Foz Velha, in Porto, is a project based on a small, very narrow plot of land, but with a large frontage on the street.
The functional program is that of a house with three bedrooms, with a garage. The solar exposure of the plot is, at street level, precarious due to the volume of the building opposite. Privacy and security have discouraged the opening of windows, over the streets, of the living quarters on the lower floor.
Thus, a three-story house project was developed whose ground floor is somewhat elevated in relation to Travessa das Laranjeiras.
The entrance hall, crossing the new building from the basement to the roof, is a solution decided upon in the project. This allows not only to illuminate and ventilate the rooms on the lower floor but also to complement the comfort of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor, ensuring the necessary interior privacy. The living rooms, stacked (one on the 1st floor and another on the 2nd), complement the circulation between the various floors. And thus, space is saved, which is already so scarce. The top floor, the most exposed to sunlight, will be assigned to the living room.
The roof of the bedrooms is an outdoor patio complementary to the living room.
The treatment of the facades involves plastered and painted walls over a granite baseboard. However, the recessed floor is the exception – it will be clad in pure zinc sheeting. Thus, the visual impact of this volume will be reduced, and the pre-existing volumetry will be differentiated from the new one.
