The opportunity and the choice
The top two floors of the building had been leased for decades.
They became vacant and this was an opportunity for the revaluation of the building.
As such, five apartments were created in them.
The project and its objectives
The strategy of the project was, on one hand, to maximize the reuse of existing construction elements to preserve (as much as possible) the original atmosphere of the spaces and control the costs of the operation.
On the other hand, the project focused on a strong increase in comfort, both thermal and acoustic, in all the dwellings.
However, reconciling the two objectives, in some cases where they seemed mutually exclusive, required finding ingenious and less conventional solutions, already tested in other projects.
In summary, the result is the offer of functionally updated and comfortable apartments in the city center, in the heart of Porto's current "movida".
